With a decent size troop core behind you in Evony, you’re ready to try the first type of sweeping attack.

(It’s important to note, and most Evony Alliances should be reaffirming this, that a large army is critical, even from the early stages to ensure your survival (defence) and growth (expansion / attack) in the free web browser MMORPG / RTS game Evony.)

Click the Evony ‘Map View’ (it’s situated on the top of the game window),

Once clicked, you will see all different terrain types, from swamps to lakes to flats and even mountains.

Move your mouse over the various terrain squares and it will provide more information. It should say the type of terrain (Mountain, Flat, Swap etc) and what level it is.

Evony should also provide more information on the actual percentage of resource boost you will receive if you can successfully defeat the terrain type.

So now you need to select a Valley that you want to conquer, the higher the level rank of the terrain, the harder to defeat, but the more experience you will get in Evony.

Ok choose the valley you wish to conquer, mouse click on it, this will bring up a menu within Evony containing much more statistics.

Once you see the options, select the one that says “scout”, time to attack. Click the attack button at the lower end of the options square.

Once you’ve clicked attack, this will engage one of your scouts to visit the site and check more intimate details.

In Evony, certainly in Evony attacks and Evony Alliance missions, sending a scout prior to attacking is crucial.

The scout won’t always succeed, but if he manages to win and grab the information from the land square, a scouting report will be available and you’ll notice a ‘new mail’ icon at the bottom of the Evony navigation area. (the bird).

Open up the new info, then jot down the amount of troops the square or terrain has there, you need to memorize or jot this down, knowing how much troops, archers, etc to send.

Drop back to Evony city view and select the building called ‘Rally Point’. In its buildings menu select the “exercise” option.

The exercise option allows you to ’simulate’ Evony battle conditions. So choose how many enemy troops you are facing and this will give you an idea of how many of your own Evony army to send.

Regardless of the amount of army / troop casualties Evony allows you to win this ‘mock’ battle.

The key is to understand how many casualties you had, so you know how many actual real troops you need to send into the full blown battle.

Ok, once you know the right amount of Evony army to be sending on the real attack, select the map view once more and find the Valley you wanted to defeat.

Now, click the attack option instead of the scout option. Its a similar menu but but in the top right-hand corner you should see ‘attack’ instead of just the ’scout’ option.

Choose the size of your Evony army, ie: amount of soldiers (troops), archers etc that you wish to use in your assault and then select a hero that you wish to have leading the army into the terrain / battle.

Choose the attack button again that you clicked on prior during the scout option and but this time, the battle in Evony is for real.

After travelling to the terrain square, the battle between your Evony army and the square will be immediate.

To get a full review of the battle and the (victory / loss report) casualties check the reports section from the bottom menu bar then you need to select the Army tab and click attack reports.

Your soldiers will now be occupying the Valley (if you were successful) and you can choose to keep them stationed there, or return them to your Evony city.

Alliance Myrmidon is rising fast with 2 players ranked in the Top 5.  RogueAce for Myrmidon has impressive honour, which is important for respectability. New users should take note of this, as this alliance seems like a genuinely good one to join. Some alliances may be a touch rude and will not want to take on newer members, this is a silly move as it will hurt the alliance long term. For such a young game, Evony Alliances have grown quickly and are a great source of assistance to new players signed up to the web based free game. Alliance leaders will provide tips on how to build your city quickly, how many troops to station there and general hints at how to keep the Evony enemies from attacking you while you are young and vulnerable.

Almost immediately after joining, you will see Evony Alliances inviting you in the ‘world chat’ to form part of their group. However, its important to remember that your city needs an embassy before becoming part of any alliance.

The other important factor is the size of your embassy. The first 7 days of play for newbies in Evony ensure you cannot be attacker (beginner level) however once you’re off protection, the larger your embassy the more alliance troops can swoop down and help protect you in battle. So ensure you build your embassy quickly so reinforcements can come and help in the event of an attack.

Its also important to remember that not just high walls, but plenty of archer towers are needed to assist with defence of your Evony city. Do this early and do this often.
