Phuket Accommodation
Where are the best places to stay when travelling to Phuket, Thailand? As the popularity of the small beach surrounded area increases; finding Phuket Accommodation can become a little difficult – given the amount of hotel choice and at times, very busy occupancy rates.
For tourists looking at a holiday or vacation in Phuket, the majority will find their way to Patong. A bustling hub, or unofficial capital if you will – Patong is the beach side town which houses all the nightlife in Phuket. By day, you’ll have access to large sprawling beaches only a minutes walking distance.
Regardless of where your staying, the accommodation you choose in Phuket will be frequented by all different kinds of public transport. Tuk-tuk drivers (small open air taxis) are everywhere, expect to pay around 200 baht for a trip of most distances. You’ll also be able to use a motorcycle taxi, this is a cheap form of getting from your hotel, bungalow or holiday units to the main attractions.
You will ride on the back of a moped, or a honda wave 125cc motorbike taxi which usually costs no more than 60 baht per trip around town.
Now, in terms of accommodation – there are plenty of choices.
Along Beach Rd in Patong, you’ll find most, if not all major international hotel chains ranging from 3 to 5 star rooms. The Holiday Inn, The Marriott, Best Western Patong and the Sofitel. We’ve also heard good reviews of the South Sea Karon and Phuket Merlin Hotel – both getting great ratings from guests and visitors. The Merlin Beach Resort Hotel also generally scores highly with western tourists in thailand / phuket.
In the middle to upper-range of hotels, you’ll find a whole host in Phuket especially Patong. Many western investors have spent big dollars opening designer, boutique and cost effective hotels with accommodation in Patong that actually competes with the bigger chains.
Worth investigating is the Absolute Bangla suites, right on Bangla Rd, Patong. You cannot get any closer to the nightlife in Patong than these suites. Large, comfy and at the upper end of the hotel food chain – these are one of the more recent openings in the area.
Not far down Bangla, the Soi Seadragon area is soon to be demolished (with many smaller go-go bars to be removed) to make way for a large hotel development and access rd.
A little further back from Bangla on Soi Sansabai, you’ll find the likes of the more cost effective guest houses, and cheap rooms in Patong.
The newly opened Marley Hotel Patong which is affiliated with the @White Patong Boutique hotel shares the same designer and features fresh, new rooms at affordable prices.
Along with the Yorkshire Inn Patong nearby, you’ll also find a range of single and double room guest houses where you might only pay 200-300 baht per night.
Hotel accommodation in kata beach and karon beach is more family oriented, with unspoilt beaches, quieter nights and cheaper eating and activities. Anything from the thai cuisine, to jet ski rides or even riding elephants or firing a range of guns (ak 47’s, uzi, handguns etc etc)

This is really good stuff…all the tips on hotels, thanks! The best thing I ever did was to find this website that offered a great choice of accommodation rooms with Phuket hotels discount!
