Patong Girls
A massive tourist attraction for visitors to Patong, Phuket – is the world famous Patong Girls. For near on 20 years now, local females have been entertaining guests to Patong – many forced through low wages and little employment opportunities to work as a tour guide and essentially in some cases ’spending the evening’ with a male visitor to Patong.

Interestingly the practise has continued to grow and thrive, despite attempts by local authorities to alter Patong into a family focused environment.
The throb of Soi Bangla instantly paints a picture of what this place is about. Girls in Patong everywhere and only too willing to latch on the first tourist or ‘farang’ as they call them that walks past them.
Many of the girls in Patong have arrived from outer farms, from the region around Issaan – with the stories of Patong enticing familes to encourage their young girls to head into town and try to make a living from the tourists that visit.
While hard to imagine for many parts of the Western World, surprisingly some of the smarter girls are able to make more money in this profession than some of the leading doctors and lawyers in Patong.
On a typical evening a girl from a go-go bar or a freelancer girl in Patong could command (depending on her looks) 2000-2500 baht for an evening with a visitor.
While hotels continued to spring up, and new adventure tours continue to be developed in Phuket – the stories and attraction of Patong continue to outstrip all else on the island of Phuket.
From the nightclubs and bars around Bangla, such as Taipan, Rock City, Baya Beach, Club Rio, Hollywood, Tiger, Seduction, Club Lime and so many more – this is truly the heart of the tourist destination. Then there is the likes of Soi Eric, Soi Crocodile, Soi Gonzo and the new Sounds Nightclub in Patong (Jungceylon). The Tiger Complex generally proves the best nightclub in Patong, however the Tiger Group are developing what they call ‘Tiger 2′ up near the Bangla Stadium (Thai Boxing) area. There are several bars for here and a whole host more of bars in patong for sale – however, do your homework before diving in.
Most bars, clubs and businesses for sale in Phuket require a purchase of the least (years remaining vary) but then a monthly rental fee is still paid. On top of this are renewal time, an amount of key money for the deal is required too.
For the tourists, there have been stories of many who have falled in love after taking a patong girl on a date. Other times there were stories of theft, trouble and many cases of a broken heart.
Unlike pay-for services around the world, Patong Girls are full of smiles and hell-bent on trying to please their customer.
It’s hard to miss this kind of thing occuring as you take a trip to Phuket and Patong, however you need to keep your wits about you and remember not to get too drunk. But you can be sure on one thing, you’ll have to buy plenty of drinks for your girl and she won’t want to leave your side after you tip her for her assistance.
