Patong Bar
For tourists trekking to Patong, Thailand – the choice of bars, drinking holes and clubs in the heart of Phuket is extreme to say the least.
There are anywhere between 150-350 patong bars, these drinking bars range from enclosed pool (snooker) bars, where you can get your favourite drink, the likes of Tiger Beer, Singha Beer or import beers to Thailand. Inside these bars, you can expect to find a sports bar type feel. There might be a dart board and you will probably see english premier league, australian national rugby league or american sports in Patong.
Where ever you travel in and around Patong, you’ll find small bars. In food outlets, near hotels and guesthouses and tucked way back down in alley ways.
The total amount of patong bars is really unknown, there are just too many to count.
Smaller bars will offer great prices on local beers, spirits and even Thai cocktails.
As you move up the food chain, the mid-sized bars are very interesting. Underneath the Tiger complex on Soi Bangla, you’ll find a host of busy bars. Some of the most popular patong bars, are Hellboy, G-Spot, Up 2 U Sure Bar and Downunder Bar – all located under Tiger. They are mid-sized (if not smallish) and huddled together and give off a crazy, busy feel that everyone likes.
Stepping up to larger bars, you’ll soon find the likes of Octopus Bar on the corner of Soi Bangla and Soi Sea Dragon in the heart of the Patong. You can play pool, listen to music and drink you’re favourite drinks.
In a similar mould to Octopus bar Patong, you have the P-One bar, Dream Bar and others that are based on Bangla. You’ll find the attraction of Soi Eric and Soi Crocodile (Beware Ladyman or Ladyboy!) However, with tourists wanting to watch the world (and locals) go by in Patong – they tend to drink at the likes of Dream Bar, Blue Lotus, Ice Bar and P-One Bar Patong.
At the top end of the scale, there are some westernised pubs appearing in Patong. The likes of Scuffy Murphy’s, Irish Pubs in Patong and the new Sounds Nightclub in Phuket (Jungceylon).
Long standing popular nightclubs, such as Tiger, Hollywood Patong, Baya Beach and Chang Club (Shark Club) are all usually busy. Hollywood gets good crowds from the enclosed soi’s underneath, and Tiger gets the same from the complex they have.
Up on the beach road in Patong, you’ll find things are even more touristy. The likes of Banana Club and Club Lime tend to get more western (farang) tourists inside. Seduction club in patong is probably the biggest mix of all the clubs, getting a large local and foreign tourist component.
But one thing is for sure, patong bars are everywhere and you’ll surely find one that suits your needs, likes, wants and budgets! Ranging from basic, cheap bars through to expensive, elaborate bars to suit the highest quality 5-star tastes and critics.
